General Outlook

The U.K. housing market is now the hottest it has been in five years

Despite the economic downturn of the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.K. has seen phenomenal results in the 2020 housing market.  According to a recent house price index report by Zoopla, one of the largest listing companies in the U.K., in the wake of the COVID crisis, buyers are rushing to rearrange their living situations, leading to a five year high in buying, which is sitting at 76% higher than the five year period’s average.  

The deepest recession on record, do to COVID, may have hurt some but has not slowed home shoppers.  In May, the British housing market began to reopen, and Zoopla found that continued demand has cut two weeks off the average on the market time when compared to the previous year’s same three-month period that ended mid-August.  Additionally, this demand is still outpacing the supply of homes in the U.K. market, especially on the high end, as buyers are looking for properties with more bedroom space.
